InZart is an online gallery of modern Zimbabwean sculpture featuring various artists, established and upcoming working in a wide variety of media. The work shown is available for purchase and is held in London where it can be viewed by appointment.
Zimbabwe has a rich history in the contemporary arts since the establishment of the National Gallery in the then Rhodesia in the late 1950s. Globally the work of stone sculptors has received the widest attention, with ground breaking shows held as early as 1972 in the Musee Rodin, Paris. In more recent times artists have taken on the challenge of working in all types of materials.
The collection was started in 1990 and was centred on a group of highly talented sculptors working in scrap metal, many of whom had benefited from the sponsorship programmes and awards sponsored by Oxyco (pvt) Ltd in the decade following independence in 1980.
The gallery also hosts a large collection of small wooden sculptures by Patrick Mandabva who has an unique language and narrative to his oeuvre.
The metal sculpture collection was exhibited throughout the United Kingdom during the 1990s to great acclaim and now in the 21st century the world is now seeing the powerful qualities in contemporary African art.
It is hoped that visitors to the site will enjoy and appreciate the works displayed here and all enquiries whether of a commercial or educational nature are welcomed.
